Was Brian Flores going to get the Arizona Cardinals head coaching job? That is up in the air, but let’s face it the man suing the NFL for lack of opportunities for minority coaches turned down an interview opportunity with the Cardinals for their head coaching vacancy.

While I know it is not a guarantee he would have been hired, Flores said he felt in his heart the Vikings DC job was the best fit for him.

Here is what he said:

“There was still an opportunity with Arizona,” Flores said during his introductory press conference with the Vikings. “You almost get a gut feeling. I think we’ve all kind of had those, that this was the place for me and my family. This was the right opportunity.

“It’s funny, I was in church a couple weeks ago as this was all going on. And the pastor in Pittsburgh, he said, ‘In life there’s instances where you can either have control or you can have growth and you can’t have both.’ That kind of hit me pretty good. I just felt like this was a great opportunity for growth.”

Many are questioning this online, saying Flores feels that minority coaches do not get enough head coaching opportunities but declined to interview with a team for their head coaching job. And then accepted a job as a defensive coordinator instead.

People are petty, but if you feel something is right, you should do it. I think Flores will crush it with the Vikings.
