Jackson State student offered a spot on JSU football team was shot and killed on campus
Flynn Brown was a standout running back in high school in New Jersey, and unfortunately the 22-year old was shot and killed on Friday on the JSU campus.
Police identified Randall Smith, 20 as a suspect in the shooting. Smith was arrested.
JSU officials announced the death as well releasing this statement:
“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the death of a JSU student,” said JSU University President Thomas Hudson in a press statement Friday afternoon. “The loss of a young person is always a devastating circumstance for our campus community. Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time. As president, I assure you that the safety of our students and campus community is our highest priority. While we do not have all of the details at this time, a person of interest is in custody.”
The school said that the Mount Olive High School player was not on the football team, but according to his high school coach Sirajj Ziyad, Flynn earned a spot on JSU’s 2023 team as a walk-on after practicing with the school in the spring of 2022.
Please keep the family and friends of Flynn in your prayers.
