Player Summary:

Senior. Starts at RT. Average run blocker and average in pass protection, but with his frame and size has a chance to develop into a good player under the right coach. Has a lot to like from a physical standpoint.  Big-boned OT with long and thick arms. Has a strong and muscular upper body. Big legs, thick ass, developed lower half. As a run blocker, he is average. Struggles to latch onto defenders and drive them off the ball.  Doesn’t fire forward or show ability to block at the 2nd level. Is a good puller with quick feet for his size, but has a tough time finding color out in space. Can encircle blocks on IZ runs and stymie defenders at the corner.  In pass protection, he is average. Has a good first step, shows ability to handle spin moves, and has good instincts in recognizing stunts and twists. Hand use is inconsistent, often outside the pads and needs to work on keeping his elbows tighter. Will have moments where he does everything right from a technique standpoint but needs to play with better patience on a more consistent basis – will get too aggressive, bend at the waist and overextend, allowing rushers to come free. Struggled v. edge speed especially v. PAST. Gets walked back into the backfield, gets up on his toes, needs to show he can anchor. Size/frame can’t be taught. Could flourish under the right coach. Sustained a season-ending knee injury during the matchup against MSST (Nov. 5, 2022).

Scheme Fit:

RT.

Power Statement:

Austin is average in both pass protection and run blocking. His frame and size are big pluses, and under the right coach, he could fix his flaws. Timetable to return from knee injury is unknown at this time which may affect his draft stock.
