With Half the NFL Season Over Already, Who are the Contenders for the Super Bowl?
By now, with the 2022 NFL season being commenced in full swing, drawing an idea seems possible about the teams who are going to compete at the Super Bowl next February. The picture is becoming more apparent after Week 8 in the NFL. Green Bay is once again dominating the NFC. Teams like Los Angeles Rams, Buffalo Bills, and Arizona Cardinals have successfully passed the eye test. Even though quite a few teams didn’t start with the most excellent performance, they must be considered Super Bowl contenders, focusing on how they play. Which team is favored to win the Super Bowl LVI on February 13? Who has gained the oddsmakers’ attention? Let’s discuss this.
Who are the Contenders?
Currently favored to win the title by the NFL lines site, the team is also backed by Former NFL player Santonio Holmes to finish in the top five. The Bills have performed consistently since the beginning of this season, gaining victories over other teams like Tennessee Titans and Los Angeles Rams. With their frontrunner Josh Allen, they are at the top in defense score and top defense in yards allowed for each game, the team seems to be strong on the ball’s both sides; The Bills are currently at +270 odds in favor of winning. Kansas City Chiefs were defeated by Buffalo in NFL week 6. Even though they lost against the Miami Dolphins, the defeat hasn’t changed the belief that the Bills can be the winner of the Super Bowl.
The 2017 Super Bowl LII champions, the team is unbeatable this season. The team’s defense may surpass the offence because they hold fourth rank in points allowed and yards allowed per game. Eagles have achieved victories over the Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, and Washington Commanders, which is why they are at the top of the NFC East. Since the 2019 Patriots, the only team to not lose through six games in the second half is Philadelphia Eagles as they use a dominant second quarter to pull back from the rivals. Even though there are quite a few contenders for the Super Bowl this year, The Eagles can be the champions next February.
Ranking second in points allowed per game, the Dallas Cowboys have an elite defense game. The team got Dak Prescott back, which would be significantly helpful. Given that the Cowboy’s defense plays at an elite level, Dallas will be competing for the Super Bowl. Even though their current NFC playoff seeding may seem unconvincing, don’t be misled about how good the Cowboys are.
Kansas City Chiefs
Despite the Chiefs facing defeat against the Buffalo Bills in week 6, they shouldn’t be left out of the possible contenders’ list of the Super Bowl. Having coach Andy Reid, the Chiefs are one of the teams that stands out in the NFL for the last four seasons and are highly favored to perform well this season. Ranking second in scoring offence in NFL, they have generated above 40 points thrice in 2022, and they are the only team to do so. The offence seems to improve weekly having Travis Kelce, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and JuJu Smith-Schuster to lead their deep-pass catching group. The chiefs’ pass defense isn’t the best in the NFL, as it is ranked at 30 in pass yards per game. However, the Chiefs are very much expected to go deep into January.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Even though they recently faced a defeat against the Green Bay Packers, the Buccaneers still have the chance to win the Super Bowl this season. The team faced a setback owing to injuries and suspensions, but the team has a great offence and needs no improvement in that area. Having Tom Brady as their quarterback, who’s willing to finish his NFL career with a blast, it wouldn’t be wise to underestimate the team’s chance to be successful this season.
How Much Should You Believe the Predictions?
