California High School football team is forced to forfeit their entire season after “Slave Auction” Video emerged
River Valley High School football program has suspended their entire football program after a video emerged of their players re-enacting a slave auction and selling off their teammates.
The Superintendent Doreem Osumi was not happy about the video and called it a “reprehensible act” which showed players of the River Valley High School football team pretending to sell three of their black teammates in the locker room.
“Re-enacting a slave sale as a prank tells us that we have a great deal of work to do with our students so they can distinguish between intent and impact,” Yuba City Unified School District Superintendent Doreen Osumi wrote.
“They may have thought this skit was funny, but it is not; it is unacceptable and requires us to look honestly and deeply at issues of systemic racism.”
The video was first shared in a group chat between students, though at least one student claims the clip made its way to social media.
