Youth Football Coach arrested after throwing a football at a referee who was making bad calls

I guess throwing a football at a referee is better than beating their ass. According to a report in Boston, Dana Jones a 50-year-old Pop Warner youth football coach for the Mattapan Patriots was arrested, because he felt the other team Malden Cyclones were cheating, and the ref was making bad calls.

The 66-year-old referee Thomas Abruzzese told officers that Jones lost his cool after he made a helmet-to-helmet call.

Jones reportedly was so pissed he threw the football at Abruzzese and it hit him in the middle of the chest, which caused him to kneel in pain.

Several other referees were present and watched it all unfold. According to the Boston Globe, Jones’ team was winning when a football player from the other team was injured from an illegal hit. After the ref threw the flag he heard the coaches and Jones yelling obscenities at him.

“When I turned, that’s when I got blindsided by this coach throwing the football at me,” Abruzzese said in an interview with the Globe. “I’m still trying to wrap my head around what caused the furor for this coaching staff, and this coach in particular.”

Jones has been arrested for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person 60 years or older.
