Mississippi High School football player Phillip Laster Jr. died during practice | Only 17

According to reports, 17-year-old Brandon High School football player Phillip Laster Jr. from Mississippi had died.

A school Superintendent Dr. Rimes released this statement regarding the death.

“We are saddened and heartbroken by the sudden loss of Brandon High School student athlete, Phillip Laster. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. In the days to come, RCSD will offer support to the family, Brandon High School team members, coaches, classmates, teachers, and administrators as we all grieve the loss of Phillip.”

Although it’s unclear if the summer heat was a factor in the death, the temperatures in the Brandon area reached the mid-90s on Monday. Laster died during practice, according to multiple reports.

The cause of death has not been released.
