Deshaun Watson and the Browns better get used to fans booing | Is it really Cleveland Against the World?
The Cleveland Browns were booed bad this past weekend in Jacksonville, and rightfully so. The Browns took a chance on Deshaun Watson giving him a huge contract as if he was not being accused of sexual assault. The fans were not very happy with Watson, and boy did they let him have it.
It was so bad that after the game, his teammate Joel Bitonio said he expects every stadium to boo them this year, and then said it is Cleveland Against the World.
“You know, I think once Deshaun came out of the game we got booed less, but you go to a road game they boo you anyway, so you know what I mean?” Bitonio told reporters Sunday. “So we’ll see how it goes. I’m sure, it seems like more than ever, Cleveland against the world, so we’ll be ready for it.”
My question is did you expect something different? I personally feel the Browns by playing Watson is truly a disservice to their fans and their football team. They have to prepare their starting quarterback and get him valuable reps. Whoever that player is. If that is Jacoby Brissett or another player they trade for.
The NFL is not going to let their foot off the gas, they want to make a statement with Deshaun Watson. I would not be shocked if he is suspended the entire year. The Browns made the decision to screw Baker Mayfield and go with Watson. Now they are dealing with it.
While Watson is eligible to play in the preseason, if they want to play him they should do it at the end of the game. The boos are not going to stop, he was accused of sexual assault or sexual misconduct by 25 women who filed civil lawsuits against him (though one lawsuit was later dropped due to privacy concerns). The crazy thing is all but one of these have been settled.
Then Watson issued an apology before the start of the game in Jacksonville last week.
Sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for. The 2017 team finished 0-16, while the 2020 squad won a playoff game behind Baker Mayfield. Maybe they chose the wrong quarterback….
