CFL hands down the longest suspension in League History for this hit by Garrett Marino | Was it really that bad?

Former UAB standout pass rusher Garrett Marino was just given the worst suspension in CFL history of four games for a hit on Ottawa QB Jeremiah Masoli that resulted in a serious injury of the QB.

Marino received a two-game suspension for a low hit on Ottawa quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, which resulted in serious injury and Marino’s ejection from the game, and for Marino’s subsequent celebration of the hit.

Here is the hit, below.

He received a one-game suspension for verbal comments made about Masoli’s heritage during the game, which violates the CFL’s Code of Conduct. And he received another one-game suspension for his illegal and reckless tackle of an Ottawa offensive lineman on a previous play.

I want to know your personal opinion. Does this hit look like he was intentionally trying to hurt the Quarterback? I will say the twist at the end of the hit was probably unnecessary.

Marino, 27, made his CFL debut with the Roughriders last season, posting four sacks in seven games. He has one sack and five tackles in five games this season.

We completed this interview with the former UAB pass rusher last year.
