What will Washington Commanders do at Quarterback? They are running out of options

Ron Rivera faced Matt Ryan twice a year for several years in Carolina. Why wouldn’t he want to add the veteran quarterback? It makes a lot of sense.

The Washington Commanders have been in damn near every conversation when it comes to a veteran quarterback. Yesterday, they were all in on Russell Wilson hoping to land the veteran quarterback from the Seahawks but they missed out because the Seahawks did not want to trade Russell in the NFC.

There were rumors that the Washington Commanders offered more than the Denver Broncos. The Commanders have been on record stating they want a veteran quarterback. They want to make a run at a Championship, but they are running out of options. I think the Commanders have a few options on the table. Let’s see if we can guess their next quarterback.

Yesterday, the Packers agreed to keep Aaron Rodgers which opens up space for the Packers who are in salary cap hell to maybe get rid of some players. Could the Packers trade Jordan Love? I know Love is not a veteran per se, but he is unproven and has had time to learn behind Rodgers. Could the Commanders pull the trigger for him? It makes sense but here is my guess.

I could see this the most

Matt Ryan, QB, Atlanta Falcons – The Commanders want a veteran and if they had a great quarterback they could make a run deep in the playoffs. At this point, the Falcons could move on from Ryan. I mean the team is not going to win without their star receiver. Calvin Ridley is out for the year, and it makes you truly wonder if the Falcons will try to get value for Ryan now so they can draft their future QB. They could land several first rounders for Ryan and maybe players. The Washington Commanders make the most sense. I mean the Falcons could maybe pry away a star pass rusher, then focus on a younger quarterback in the draft.

I doubt it, but for the right price…..

Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, San Francisco 49ers – I personally would not trade for Jimmy G, but the Washington Commanders are desperate. I think they want a veteran quarterback so bad right now they would be willing to give up quite a bit to land a Quarterback. I think if the deal was right the 49ers would let Garoppolo go. I personally feel they will keep him, but if he becomes available expect a call from Martin Mayhew.

Would be a huge shake up for sure

Kyler Murray, QB, Arizona Cardinals – The Cardinals keep saying they are happy with Murray, but let’s face it their actions are not showing that. The Cardinals will have to give Murray an extension soon, so if they feel they could get back a huge return, why not let him go? I mean is this is a very deep shot? It is, but I would not be shocked if they really make a push for him.

Could they land Carson?

Carson Wentz, QB, Indianapolis Colts – The Colts were not too pumped about keeping their quarterback, maybe the Commanders can get the former NDSU Bison Champion for cheap. The Colts would likely be willing to trade away Wentz, but for what price.

One player you really wish wasn’t in the mix

Sam Darnold, QB, Carolina Panthers – Let’s face it the Commanders want a veteran quarterback with experience. They could go after Darnold, his contract is pretty cheap for a quarterback in the NFL. I am sure they could lock him up for multiple years if they wanted to, but would the fans like it? I do not think they would be fans, but I would not be surprised if he could be had for a late rounder the Commanders would listen.

Free Agents?

I mean if you want to keep your draft capital, you can go after Mitch Trubisky, Cam Newton, Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota, Teddy Bridgewater, Jacoby Brissett, Tyrod Taylor, or Joe Flacco. At the end of the day though, you are not going to be happy with the results more than likely. I know the Washington Commanders want to make a splash. I would not be shocked if they went hard after Matt Ryan right now.
