Player Summary:
RS SR and 1 yr full-time starter at DB where he aligns at both outside CB positions in the 3-3-5 heavy Nickel defense of KYLO. He transferred from FLST prior to the 2022 season. He possesses average height, poor weight with marginal speed and a lean build. He is an average athlete showing a combination of good explosiveness, average balance, acceleration, lateral quickness and agility with ordinary COD and average top end play speed. He is solid in press coverage. He primarily uses a two-handed jam technique to slow down outside WR with adequate size or shows quick feet to mirror his man and stays in phase with WR with average play speed. In off-man, he plays with a good cushion and does a solid job of defending curl and comeback routes. In zone, he shows solid awareness while reading the QB and defends the flat in cover 2. He displays good ball skills as he times his hands well as he disrupts the trajectory of the ball at the last second to cause a PBU. He is very good against the run. He quickly reads run/pass and shows the willingness to assist. He shows good instincts as he takes the correct angle in pursuit and displays good explosiveness and above-average open field tackling ability before delivering a big hit for the tackle on RB with average size and contact balance preventing a potential first down. He displays quality competitive toughness both physically at the POA in press coverage and mentally as he shows excellent heart against the run as he makes the tackle on RB significantly larger than he is. If beaten in press coverage on vertical routes, he will get grabby with his hands in his attempt to slow down WR with good AA and play speed. Ordinary hip fluidity enables WR with good route running ability to separate on out and in breaking routes while he is in off-man. Lack of quality play speed and AA causes him to play with an ordinary range.
Scheme Fit:
CB in Cover 2 scheme due to his prowess against the run or man in press coverage due to his very good physical toughness and ability to effectively jam WR with ordinary size and AA at the LOS.
Power Statement:
Tough, gritty player who excels against the run and is good in coverage overall. Quality competitive toughness enables him to play much larger than his estimated size. Needs to improve his hand use down the field while in man coverage.
