Colin Kaepernick now wants to abolish prisons….

Colin Kaepernick now wants to abolish prison. This is interesting, I have not heard this before, but where do we put the child molesters and murderers?

Today, Colin Kaepernick wrote a piece that was published in the Medium, and to be honest, I am not sure what to say. Kaepernick really wants to abolish police and he also now wants to abolish prisons.

I am not sure what he plans on doing with the people in prisons, but I guess they live among us, with this new take.

“By abolishing policing and prisons, not only can we eliminate white supremacist establishments, but we can create space for budgets to be reinvested directly into communities to address mental health needs, homelessness and houselessness, access to education, and job creation as well as community-based methods of accountability,” he added.

I read the article, and I understand there is a problem in the world right now. But is prison really a place that should be abolished?

I have worked in a prison for 16 years, it is the hardest thing in the world to see a person defeated. To talk to a man or woman who has deceased as their release date. Many prisoners are good human beings that did something stupid.

We have all done something stupid in our lives, and unfortunately the time given to criminals is not fair. Sometimes someone with the same crime can get two different sentences. The system does suck, but to say abolish prisons is ridiculous. Does it need reform? Hell yes, does it need to be abolished, HELL NO!

There are people like Austin Stevens, a man I wrote about yesterday, who raped and killed his own 10 month old daughter. She died of getting hit in the head after he forcibly raped her. A BABY BRO! That is sickening. If we abolish prisons you want that guy to be your neighbor? I can understand your sentiments about letting people who have been given prison sentences for non violent offenses. To be honest that is what the First Step Act is, that has now replaced the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994. The First Step Act is already letting hundreds of inmates go home. That was just put in place recently.

How do I know? I work in Re-Entry!

But to say Abolish a prison is asinine.

The word ABOLISH, means to END.

a·bol·ish/əˈbäliSH/

formally put an end to (a system, practice, or institution).

If something is abolished that means there is no more. So what do we do with the men and women in prison? I am not sure he is thinking this one through.

Kind of hard to take serious, I understand being upset and wanting a change. I think many want a change, but getting rid of it is not the way.
