NFL Draft Diamonds Prospect Interview: Kameron Tedder, DE, Southern Connecticut State University

What is your name? 

My name is Kameron Tedder.

What is your Height/Weight? 

I’m 6 feet, 3 inches, and 260 pounds.

What is your position? 

I played Defensive End and Outside Linebacker

Where do you play college football? 

I played at Southern Connecticut State University

Football is about giving back, what is the coolest thing you have done off the field? 

I volunteer during the summers at an inner-city at risk youth mentoring program. It keeps me grounded and reminds me of how fortunate I am.

 What was the hardest college class you ever had to take? 

The hardest class I took was a Psychology class titled Death, Dying & Bereavement.

 Where are you from? 

I was born in Flushing, NY but raised in Westchester, NY

 Who is your role model, and why? 

My parents are my biggest role model, they have aimed to live a life of example for both me and my brother, and have always been there for me.

Did you play any other sports growing up? 

I’ve played baseball, track, lacrosse, basketball & wrestling.

Did you play any other positions in football? 

In high school I played the position of Fullback and DL.

At your position, what separates you from others? 

The attribute that separates me from others is my ability know the offensive plays that might be executed, based on the formation.  I accredit this to hours of studying film.

When you are breaking down film, what do you look for? 

When looking at film of an opposing team, I study player behaviors and techniques on the field (from the movement of their helmets, the slightest shift in their hips, down to what foot they typically move off with first).  When I look at myself, I exam and critic all aspects of my performance, as there is always room for improvement.

Who was the toughest player you ever faced? 

The toughest player I’ve ever faced was an offensive tackle from in my freshman year. The player was from IUP, he was great competition which made for a competitive encounter.

If you could compare your play to one player in the NFL who would it be and why? 

It would definitely be Terrell Suggs! I study his techniques and learn from them.

What was the biggest obstacle in your life you had to overcome, and how did you overcome it? 

My biggest obstacle was myself. In my freshman year, I would doubt if I was good enough to play. I overcame this obstacle by preparing for all games, and then knowing with certainty that I am!

Do you have any pre-game rituals? 

Before every game, I mentally transform my focus into an elevated zone. I envision my plays before they even happen. This has been a long standing ritual since high school.

What is your biggest strength? 

My biggest strength is my earnest will to listen, look, study, and stay coachable. The pursuit of personal excellence is a dynamic and ongoing life process!

What is your biggest weakness? 

I would say my biggest weakness is the fact that I over critique myself.

If I were a GM and gave you a second to sell yourself, what would you say? 

Give me the opportunity to play for your team, and I will greatly enhance your team’s chances of winning.

Who was your favorite player and/or NFL team growing up? 

My favorite player was Ray Lewis from the Baltimore Ravens. I studied his techniques and admired his tenacity and love for the game.

If you could have dinner with three people dead or alive, who would you choose? 

1.     My maternal grandmother; because of her history (she died before I was born)

2.     President Obama, because of his experience

3.     King Solomon, because of his wisdom

What will be the first big item you buy once you are in the NFL? 

Although not an item per se, I would vet and hire the best financial advisers and attorney money could afford me.
