Former Indoor Football League player was killed in a car crash

evansThe Amarillo Venom are a professional indoor football team in the Champions Indoor Football league. The Venom began play in 2004 as the Amarillo Dusters, a charter member of the Intense Football League, a small indoor football league based in Texas. They won the championship in their first and only season with the IFL. This morning, a former Amarillo Venom football player is dead after a one-vehicle accident Sunday northeast of Amarillo, the Texas Department of Public Saftey said.

About 9:10 a.m., the Department of Public Safety received information of a one-vehicle crash that occurred on State Highway 136 in Potter County about 13 miles northeast of Amarillo.

Rodney Ray Evans Jr., 31, was driving a 2015 Ford Expedition south on State Highway 136, state troopers said. Evans, who was not wearing a seatbelt, drove off of the road and struck a guardrail.

He was ejected out of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene by Potter County Justice of the Peace Thomas Jones.

I hate to see any football player lose his life.  It is a sad day in Amarillo, Texas, please keep the family of Mr. Evans in your prayers.
