2016 NFL Draft Scouting Notes: C.J Johnson, LB, Ole Miss

By Lijah Spencer (@tweaked74)

Tonight we continue our look at Linebackers, as always these notes are based on last year’s film and will precede the full scouting report which will come after I view film from the upcoming season. Tonight we take a look at C.J Johnson out of Ole Miss, here are my notes:

C.J. Johnson. 6’2. 225 lbs. Ole Miss

The Positives

1) Good NFL size

2) Johnson plays with good power

3) He is a good pass rusher

4) Ability to shed blocks

The Negatives

1) Not a coverage LB

2) Average speed

C.J Johnson is a player who was highly recruited out of high school, and has been a major contributor at Ole Miss. He started his career at Defensive End, but has since moved to Linebacker and played very well. Because of this, he can play both standing up and in a 3 point stance. Johnson plays with very good power, and is a hard hitter. He does not appear to have the speed or flexibility to cover the TE. Johnson is a talented athlete who is still learning the art of playing LB, and if he has a strong season this year he should be one of the top LB’s taken in the draft.
