Adrian Peterson might need surgery on his groin which could set him back

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson will decide after an evaluation next week if surgery is needed on his groin, according to a USA Today Sports report.

According to the report, which cites a person with knowledge of the situation, Peterson and Philadelphia-based specialist Dr. William Meyers, who performed the running back’s sports hernia surgery last offseason, will meet next week and decide the best course of action.

Groin and foot injuries cost Peterson two games this season and forced him out of the Pro Bowl, though he still managed to rush for 1,266 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Peterson rushed for 2,097 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2012 en route to his first career MVP award.
